The Beatgirls Saturday Night gets all on the dancefloor and funds raised to support youth programs supported by Rotary Otumoetai, many thanks to all that attended, specials thanks to the sponsors Safer Workplace NZ and our partners for the evening, Telfer & Young, Brookfield New World and Pure Print.
Saturday Night saw an event like the club has never seen before - The Beatgirls (Andrea, Melanie and Carolyn) from Wellington, compered by Brendon Weatherly, and the whole night arranged by Carmen Goodwin and her team of helpers rocked the Yacht & Power Boat Club and the 190 revellers, raising more than $12000 for youth projects.
Brendon was a former Rotary Matched Youth Exchange student, who in 1997 went to Kandos, a tiny town about 250 kilometres north west of Sydney, and he lead the night, the raffles and auctions, leaving John Buck a little stunned how much his offered harbour cruise and lunch raised.
The Beatgirls put on two sets of memorable hits, each set being nearly an energetic hour and half long, finally bringing the curtain down at about 11.30 p.m.
But the belle of the ball was Carmen, complete with tiara, whose work made the whole night possible.  She followed it up on Monday auctioning off the left overs - even the confetti!    Thanks also to her band of helpers who helped getting the venue ready and dismantled in short order, sold raffles, and played waiter when needed.   Last month the Board approved that all the proceeds of the night were to be spent or allocated to youth projects within two years, so watch this space for the results achieved!
